Understanding Anger

Understanding Anger

Many people see anger as a powerful and sometimes frightening emotion because of its association with aggression and violence. There are times when anger can be a helpful emotion, motivating people to take action and creating important changes. However, there are many other situations where anger is an inappropriate or unhelpful response, leading to further conflict and in some cases physical violence. Understanding anger can help us to learn how to manage it effectively.

Some people have an increased tendency to react angrily to everyday challenges, and this can cause problems both for them and those around them. Other people may find that they have a shorter fuse when under increased stress. If you find that you are reacting angrily to people and situations that you encounter in daily life, you may find it helpful to develop anger management strategies. Working with a counsellor can help you to manage your reactions more effectively and develop ways of dealing with challenges without becoming angry.
